Moving forward, I got some money first and thought of constructing a house. Therefore, I had to buy a plot of land which was identified by my husband after convincing him for some time. I constructed a house in my names, but I asked my husband to help with the supervision since I knew nothing in line with construction. Hesitantly, he did it however, was competent in my supplies, and at some point I was overwhelmed by orders from different institutions.
Later on, I joined women business clubs and enterprise Uganda . In these clubs, I was taught accounts, records keeping, financial management, human resource management skills and e.t.c. More so, I was enrolled at Makerere University for computer literacy training.
I continued with my supplies, but also started to export milk to Tanzania after buying it from diary farmers and dairy farmer cooperatives through support of an agricultural loan for export from Bank of Uganda. After one year in the export business of milk, the Indians from Tanzania realized that the quality of Uganda’s milk was good. They started buying our milk, which they parked in Tanzanian packs to avoid being taxed since taxes were so high. Eventually, after paying back the Bank of Uganda loan, I stopped the export business and settled for supplying maize flour and beans to the above-mentioned institutions through the support of commercial loans.
A few years later, I realized that the business was becoming stiff with corruption, and I decided to invest the little money I had made. I bought an estate of houses in Kampala, which now supports me and the company with some funds. Later on I bought a farm in Kazo and some space in Mbarara town, where I built an office. I have bought an acre of land in an industrial area, on which I propose to build a modern storage facility.
Finally, I am looking for a funding opportunity to support us build a modern warehouse on the acquired land and install machinery for value addition of grains and start supplying finished commodities and even to export to the countries in the East African region.”
